Outgoing Liverpool CEO Rick Parry will head a new sporting betting integrity panel, the UK government Department for Culture, Media and Sport announced yesterday.
Parry announced in February that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, and has been appointed to lead the panel by sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe.
The panel will include members of the betting industry, police, players, fans, sports governing bodies, the legal profession and the Gambling Commission, and will assess rules on gambling and examine the scale of risk to sport’s integrity through betting corruption.
“Integrity and sport must go hand-in-hand and anything that threatens that bond of trust has to be stamped out,” said Parry. “The panel assembled by Gerry Sutcliffe has a wealth of experience and knowledge and I am confident that we can build on the work already done to ensure we have the toughest possible approach to corruption - protecting and preserving the reputation of sport.”
Other members of the panel include FA director of football governance and regulation Darren Bailey and Nic Coward, chief executive of the British Horseracing Authority.
