A member of the United Arab Emirates ruling family has bought a majority stake in an unknown English Premier League team, according to reports.
The official Emirates news agency (WAM) reported yesterday that Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr al-Qassimi has bought 60 per cent of an English side, adding that details would be announced in a few days. Sheikh Ahmed will be honorary chairman of the club.
Last year Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Masnour bin Zayed al Nahyan bought Manchester City, while Portsmouth is the subject of a bid from another Abu Dhabi investor, Sulaiman al-Fahim.
However Sulaiman al-Fahim told Reuters this morning that “there is no link” between his bid for Portsmouth and the reported purchase.
