Emirates airline company president Tim Clarke said yesterday that he is satisfied with its sponsorship deal with Arsenal as long as the club finishes in the top 10 of the Premier League.
Arsenal, who signed a 15-year deal with the Dubai airline in October 2004 in a deal believed to be worth £100 million, have not won a trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 2005 and last won the Premier League in 2003-04.
“We didn't expect them to win the Champions League or the Premiership,” Clarke told Reuters. “So long as they finish in the top half.”
Clarke added, in response to being asked whether or not Emirates would also consider sponsoring another football team, replied “watch this space.”
The Emirates deal includes shirt sponsorship and naming rights for the Arsenal stadium which opened in the 2006/07 season.
