Brazilian petro-chemical engineering firm Odebrecht has agreed a R$3 million sponsorship deal to support Rio de Janeiro’s bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The agreement lasts until October 2009, when the International Olympic Committee selects the host city for the Games.

Rio 2016 bid president Carlos Arthur Nuzman said, “The sponsorship agreement with the Odebrecht Group is further evidence of the growing confidence of Brazilian business in our bid and in our progress thus far. We are entering an important phase of the campaign and receiving further support at this stage is very significant for us.”

Odebrecht joins existing sponsors EBX, Embratel and TAM.
