Organisers of November’s Australian Masters golf tournament expect Tiger Woods’ planned appearance to prompt record sales when tickets are released this Thursday.
The Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reports that IMG, the tournament owner and promoter has set a daily crowd limit of 20,000 to make the event more manageable. This means that 80,000 tickets will be available in total.
The ticket prices have been carefully set at AU$44 per day on the first three days of the competition, only rising to AU$49 for the Sunday final round. The Sydney Morning Herald said IMG was keen to avoid a repeat of the “fiasco” at the New Zealand Open in 2022, when the promoters lost millions of dollars after paying a big appearance fee to Woods, then hiking the ticket price up to NZ$450 (AU$360) on the final day.
Woods is being paid over AU$3 million for the Australian Masters appearance and the Sydney Morning Herald says this would be covered by ticket sales alone.
