The organiser of this year’s Finland stage of the World Rally Championship is cutting its by budget 40 per cent due to the economic climate.

Autosport.com reports that Rally Finland, run at Jyvaskyla from July 30 to August 2, is regarded as having “the perfect business model” for an event at its high level.

However promoter Jarmo Mahonen said "the economic recession is biting harder by the day in Finland. An obvious symptom of that is the fact that we have lost over 1,000 pre-booked VIP guests…”

Mahonen also predicted that there will be “several lean years” ahead for the event.

Rally Finland is in the proposed WRC calendar for next season, which is awaiting ratification by the FIA.
