The 2010 football World Cup will provide a major boost for mobile broadcasting in Africa, according to mobile technology firm Nokia Siemens.
Reuter reports that the company is expecting more than 10 mobile television broadcasting networks to be launched on the continent in time for next year’s tournament.
Networks have begun broadcasting television to mobile in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Namibia, and Stefan Schneiders, head of Business Development for Mobile TV at Nokia Siemens, said he expects many African countries to soon follow.
Reuters reports that the World Cup 2010 will see FIFA for the first time have live coverage specifically produced for mobile phones.
