Italian, Swiss and US resorts bid to host Alpine World Championships

The Fédération Internationale de Ski has received bids from three resorts to host the Alpine skiing world Championships in 2015.

The USA Today newspaper reports that the bidders are Cortina d’Ampezzo in Italy, St Moritz in Switzerland and Vail-Beaver Creek in the US. All three also bid to host 2013 World Championships, which was awarded to Schladming in Austria last year.

Four resorts have bid to host the Nordic skiing world championships in 2015 – Falun in Sweden, Lahti in Finland, Oberstdorf in Germany, and Zakopane in Poland.

One bid was received to host the 2014 ski flying world championships – from Harrachov in the Czech Republic.

One bid was also received to host the 2015 freestyle and snowboard world championships – Kreischberg in Austria.

The winning bids will be chosen at FIS’s congress in Antalya, Turkey on June 3.
