Eurosport announced that it has acquired the broadcast rights to a range of cycling events, including the three major world tours, in Asia-Pacific.
The major cycling events which form the deal are the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a España. Other races included are the Paris-Nice, Paris-Roubaix, La Flèche Wallonne, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Paris-Tours, Tour of Qatar, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milan-San Remo and the Giro di Lombardia.
“These are multi-year deals, mostly exclusive, that will put Eurosport in the forefront of LIVE sports television in this region,” said Arjan Hoekstra, Managing Director of Eurosport in Asia-Pacific. “This will also make us one of the leading sports channels to offer Asia-Pacific viewers with the most comprehensive range of top cycling events from around the world.”
“We understand that many sports viewers across Asia-Pacific are dedicated cycling fans and we responded to this market demand by aggressively acquiring live broadcast rights to top-tier cycling properties.”
The 2009 Tour de France will be available live on Eurosport in selected Asia-Pacific countries: Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Brunei. Hong Kong will begin live broadcast coverage of the Tour in 2010.
Under the terms of the deal, Eurosport also has right to stream races live on the internet and to mobile devices in the region.
