Parliamentary awards for rugby clubs’ community work

UK rugby union clubs Saracens, Northampton Saints and Worcester Warriors have won awards for their community work, as part of the country's Parliamentary Citizenship awards.

One of the clubs will be chosen as ‘Community Club of the Year’ by a judging panel of Derek Wyatt MP, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Rugby Union Group; Mark McCafferty, chief executive of Premier Rugby; and Miriam Sherlock, editor of SportBusiness Magazine.

Saracens was nominated after winning the SportBusiness CSR award, run in conjunction with SportBusiness Magazine, for a two-year dance programme which encouraged over 16,000 young people to attend dance classes.

Bristol Rugby Club was nominated after winning the Innovation Award, for its ‘Bright Sparks’ programme which was designed to help education establishments which have truancy problems.

Worcester Warriors was nominated after winning the Impact Award for its ‘npower Tag’ programme which gives children with special needs the opportunity to learn and participate in sport.

The judging for the overall Community Club award will take place on April 29 at an evening reception at the House of Commons.
