CANAL+ EVENTS and MP&Silva have extended a previous deal for Ligue 1 media rights for several key territories in Asia-Pacific.

CANAL+ EVENTS and MP&Silva have extended a previous deal for Ligue 1 media rights for several key territories in Asia-Pacific.

Under the extended deal, international sports media company MP&Silva has exclusive rights for France’s top-tier football league Ligue 1, in Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. MP&Silva agreed the exclusive media rights in Korea last year.

MP&Silva now has exclusive media rights across all platforms in the territories, including terrestrial free-to-air television, satellite and cable television, IPTV, mobile television, mobile, and internet and broadband television.

“CANAL+ EVENTS is pleased to secure distribution of the French League in Asia-Pacific, which we consider as a crucial region of the world for football,” said president of CANAL+ EVENTS Jean-Louis Dutaret. “Our partnership with MP&Silva for Ligue 1 in Korea has proven to be highly successful so far, and we are happy to continue with our strong and fruitful relationship with MP&Silva, an outstanding expert in the commercialisation of football rights.”

“We are honoured to be placed with the enormous responsibility of helping Ligue 1 penetrate new markets and secure more broadcasting partners in Asia-Pacific,” added Andrea Radrizzani, MP&Silva group chief executive officer. “We will be working closely with our network of broadcast partners to ensure that Asian football fans will soon be able to watch their local heros, along with popular French football clubs like Olympique Lyon, Olympique Marseille, AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain, in action on their favourite television channels or across new media platforms.”

CANAL+ EVENTS, the events and media rights distribution arm of CANAL+, handles the international broadcast rights for Ligue 1.
