RFL seeks Four Nations headline sponsor

The Rugby Football League (RFL) has started a search for a title sponsor for the inaugural Four Nations tournament this autumn.

The Rugby Football League (RFL) has started a search for a title sponsor for the inaugural Four Nations tournament this autumn.

Involving Australia, England, France and World Champions New Zealand, the four-week tournament will host games in London, Yorkshire, Lancashire and France.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for a brand to raise its profile and associate itself with one of the UK’s fastest growing sports by sponsoring a prestigious international tournament. Last year’s World Cup in Australia was a huge success commercially with record TV audiences and it’s likely that this year’s Four Nations will follow suit,” said Paul Kimberley, the RFL’s commercial director.

“Rugby League prides itself on being a family sport and inclusive for all and we’re pricing tickets for this event accordingly. Not only will this tournament attract bumper crowds but also big TV audiences with both the BBC and Sky screening fixtures.”

Four Nations games will be televised to around 40 countries worldwide and in the UK games will be broadcast by the BBC and Sky Sports, with average audiences predicted of between 350,000 and 1.5 per million per game.

The tournament is an expansion of the Gillette Tri-Nations event involving Australia, England and New Zealand that was held from 2004-06. Gillette has decided to continue as England’s shirt sponsor but will not continue their title sponsorship onto the Four Nations.
