Football business event Leaders in Football has announced Lord Brian Mawhinney, independent Chairman of The Football League, will deliver a keynote address.
Lord Mawhinney is also Deputy Chairman of England’s 2018 World Cup Bidding team. He will set out his plans to ensure a sustainable future for professional football in challenging economic conditions which are stretching the gap even further between the richer and poorer clubs.
“I would be honoured to be involved in the second Leaders in Football and am happy to speak within the important theme of managing the wealth gap in football,” said Mawhinney.
Lord Mawhinney has been independent Chairman of the Football League since 2003 has played a major role in its resurgence and continued popularity. In 2004 he oversaw a re-organisation of the League structure, renaming the former Division One as the Football League Championship, and has continued to champion the importance of a strong professional league structure in England.
The event is taking place for the second time at Chelsea Football Club on 7 and 8 October, with an expected 1,000 delegates attending. Mawhinney’s appointment to the main conference stage follows other high profile names such as Jeremy Darroch, CEO of BSkyB, and President of Concacaf Jack Warner.
