The French handball League Cup semi-finals, finals and an all-star match will be played at Miami’s American Airlines Arena on April 10 and 11.
The South Florida Business Journal reports that the matches have been organised by AC Tellison Jr, a former University of Miami and NFL player, and his business partner Valentin Cristian Zaharia, a former Romanian Olympic team handball player, who have put $1 million of their own cash into the project.
The matches are taking place under a three-year contract agreed with the French Ligue Nationale de Handball. The events have a $2.5 million budget overall, and have already signed television contracts with Eurosport and France Television. Tellison expects television coverage in 160 countries by the time all contracts are finalised.
A French-American expo will take place outside the arena, alongside the matches. It is being jointly sponsored by Tellison’s company, New World Sports Enterprises LLC, and the South Florida Economic Foundation.
