US broadcaster CBS has reported record traffic for its on-demand internet video service during the first four days of its coverage of US college basketball’s NCAA ‘March Madness’.

CBS reported 5.6 million unique visitors to its NCAA March Madness on Demand (MMOD) video player in the first four days of the competition, a 60-per-cent increase on last year. The total hours of video and audio consumed has been 6.5 million, a 71-per-cent increase on last year.

Ratings for CBS’s television coverage of the matches is also up 6 per cent on last year.

MMOD has been running since 2003, and since 2008 has made available all matches from the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championships for free, from the first round through to the final. MMOD is also available internationally.
