An International Cricket Council (ICC) panel has recommended that South Africa host this year’s Champions Trophy after Sri Lanka and Pakistan were both ruled out.

Retuers reports that Pakistan was originally due to host the one-day international competition last year, but the ICC postponed that event after several team voiced concerns about security.

Now Sri Lanka has also been ruled because of the likelihood of rain interruptions during the proposed dates for the competition in September and October.

Reuters reports the ICC said in a statement that South Africa will be confirmed as the venue for the eight-team tournament, taking place September 24 to October 5, once financial terms are agreed.

The ICC panel also recommended April 30 to May 16 as dates for next year’s World Twenty20 competition in the West Indies. The ICC board must give final approval to the dates.
