Abu Dhabi will play host to the third Generations For Peace camp by bringing together leaders of youth from nine Asian and African countries troubled by conflict.

Founded by HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein of Jordan in 2007, Generations For Peace uses sport as a vehicle for peace building in divided communities. Previously held twice in Amman, Jordan, youth leaders from sixteen countries learnt the skills to run peace programmes and cascade their learning back home. As a result of these camps, more than 45 peace projects using sport amongst youth and children in troubled areas were implemented by the end of 2008.

This year's camp will be held in Abu Dhabi, under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Founding Partner of Generations For Peace.

An exciting new partnership between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Generations For Peace has been confirmed for Generations For Peace Abu Dhabi Camp 09. The NBA have sent an expert team - made up of coaches and former players - to the Middle East to undertake basketball workshops with the youth leaders, as well as providing support and motivation throughout the camp.

The Generations For Peace Pioneer Certification Programme will be delivered during Abu Dhabi Camp 09 from leading international peace education experts and sport coaches. The training programme is composed of an Introductory module providing orientation to the certification programme and the use of sport for peace, and four key modules which focus on the roles Peace Pioneers will undertake within their communities: Peace Building; instructing children; training the trainers; Advocacy for Generations For Peace and Partners to the local communities. They will also receive sport training, rules and teaching skills in four sports: Softball, Football, Volleyball and Basketball.
