UK drinks-producer Magners Irish Cider announced that it well end its deal as main sponsor of rugby union Guinness Premiership side London Wasps.

The four-year deal, which included shirt sponsorship, expires at the end of the season. Magners cited budget cuts for the decision not to extend the contract.

“Having undergone a strategic review of our existing sponsorships we are announcing that our sponsorship of London Wasps is to conclude at the end of this season,” Maurice Breen, marketing director of Magners.

“Magners have enjoyed four fantastic seasons as sponsors of Wasps and have been delighted by the backing that the players, management and supporters of the club have given us.”

Wasps chief executive Tony Copsey added: “London Wasps has enjoyed a positive and successful relationship with Magners over the past four years. We would like to thank Magners for their tremendous support over the years and we look forward to working closely with them for the remainder of the season as we strive to defend our Premiership trophy.”

Magners will continue to sponsor the Celtic League competition.
