British boxer Ricky Hatton yesterday received a contract signed by Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao to arrange their May 2 fight, which had been cast into doubt by wrangling over pay demands.
Hatton’s lawyer Gareth Williams said Hatton will sign the contract as soon as it has been checked, reports The Guardian newspaper.
“We have got the contract, signed by Manny,” The Guardian reported Williams as saying. Hatton is reported as saying that signing the contract, “…won't be a problem. All the pressure is off now.”
The fight, to be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, is to be officially announced Thursday. It had been jeopardised after Pacquiao increased his wage demands, having agreed a 50-50 split before Christmas, but the two parties now appear to have reached agreement on the terms.
