Tom Hicks, co-owner of Premier League club Liverpool, is holding talks with Kuwait billionaire Nasser Al-Kharafi to discuss a possible takeover at Anfield, according to UK press reports.

Nasser Al Kharafi - who is the 48th richest man in the world with an £9 billion fortune - has reportedly met with Hicks’ representatives in London and Liverpool's commercial and financial director Phillip Nash travelled to Kuwait this week seeking investment for the club's new ground.

Plans for Liverpool’s new stadium at Stanley Park have stalled after original cost predictions have increased from £300 million to around £450 million.

Hicks and Gillett, who took over the Merseyside club for £218 million in February 2007, value to club between £550 and £600 million. It is the second time in a year that the Americans are believed to have sought to sell the club to the family.

The Al-Kharafi family have made their fortune through construction and a variety of holdings in the banking, fast-food and tourism sectors.
