Scottish rugby officials reapply for their jobs

The Scottish Rugby Union has denied that cost-cutting due to poor attendances at Autumn internationals and a decline in corporate hospitality sales is the reason officials within the organisation are being asked to reapply for their jobs.  Dominic McKay, director of communications at SRU said that next season’s budget would not be significantly different from this season’s £8 million budget.

“We published a new strategic plan last year and are working to realign the structure of the union with that plan,” The Times newspaper reported McKay as saying. “As part of that, some jobs are going and some are being created. We do not expect to end up employing a significantly different number of people.”

The SRU is confident of a good income this year – its major sponsorship and television deals have several years to run, it has three home matches in the Six Nations competition, it is saving money by not going on a summer tour, and it will receive a cut of revenues from the Lions tour of South Africa.
