Madrid 2016 CEO Mercedes Coghen welcomed a number of new ambassadors for the Olympic candidacy from the 28 Deans taking part in the Conference of Deans of Faculty of Sports Science in Spain.
These academics, according to Coghen, have “the difficult mission of developing young people through sport and teaching them how physical activity can form the central axis of their lives, helping them to become better people”.
Coghen used the opportunity to appeal to all sports teaching professionals for participation in the bid city’s two main educational programmes: Volunteers 16 and Generation 16.
“I urge you to establish rallying points in your own universities for both volunteers and support for the Madrid 2016 bid. We need to show the IOC that Madrid 2016 is a national project and applies to the whole of Spain,” she said.
Regarding Generation 16, the bid leader has encouraged the integration of the programmes Start sport!, Do sport!, Work sport! and More sport! into the daily lives of the Spanish people with the collaboration and support of these 28 new ambassadors for the Olympic candidacy.
With this presentation, Madrid 2016 has expanded the number of people who are part of its Messengers 16 programme which already features sportspeople, people from the worlds of culture, politics, and business. In addition, including whoever is generally an advocate of the excellence and philosophy of Madrid’s Olympic project.
