The Scottish Football League has announced an extension of a deal with Co-operative Insurance, extending their title sponsorship the Scottish League Cup for a further two years until 2011.

Co-operative Insurance has sponsored the domestic competition – known until this season as the CIS Insurance Cup - since 1999.  The new deal is believed to be worth just over £2 million a season, including related television and commercial income.

“We are delighted to be announcing this contract renewal, it is great news for Scottish football in general and the Scottish Football League in particular,” said David Longmuir, chief executive of the Scottish Football League.

“The Co-operative Insurance's dedication and commitment to the League Cup reflects the importance of football in Scotland's culture, its importance to the current and emerging generations, and its role at the heart of communities, towns and cities throughout Scotland.”

Under the terms of the deal, the insurance company also has an option to maintain their involvement with the competition beyond that 2011.
