Baseball TV looks set to be launched in Canada if 2009 if negotiations between Rogers Media and Major League Baseball can be finalised.
Baseball TV would be a Canadian version of the United States baseball channel MLB Network, which launched in the US on January 1 last week to an estimated 50 million homes across North America outside of Canada.
Rogers Media, Canada’s largest cable company and owner of the MLB Eastern Division’s Toronto Blue Jays, plans to take programming from MLB Network and add Canadian content before making the channel available to cable distributors. Content on the MLB Network – which is 70-per-cent owned by Major League Baseball - includes analysis, vintage games and documentaries.
