The International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) confirmed the ten event disciplines that will make up the ÅF Golden League in 2009.
The five events for men and the five events for women that will qualify for the designated jackpot are:
Men: 100m, 400m, 3000m/5000m, 110m Hurdles, Javelin Throw.
Women: 100m, 400m, 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Pole Vault.
IAAF President, Lamine Diack, said: “As usual, we have tried to ensure an interesting mix of events qualifying for the $1 million ÅF Golden League Jackpot as this is the surest way to add interest to what is already shaping up to be an exciting 2009 season. We are all excited at the prospect of seeing the most charismatic stars of our sport in action on the ÅF Golden League stage.”
Athletes are required to win at all six meetings in the series to acquire at least a share the $1 Million Jackpot offered by the ÅF Golden League. To sustain the active participation in the Jackpot of as many athletes as possible through to the culmination of the series, should no athlete manage to attain six wins and claim the $1 million, then anyone with five victories will share half the original prize - $500,000.
The six ÅF Golden League events in 2009 will take place are:
Berlin, GER – Sunday 14 June
Oslo, NOR – Friday 3 July
Rome, ITA – Friday 10 July
