Chicago announced today three strategic appointments to the bid’s leadership team including the appointment of Lori Healey as president of Chicago 2016.
Robert Ctvrtlik has been named vice chairman for International Relations; and Mike Roberts will take on an expanded role as vice chairman of Chicago 2016.
“We have terrific leadership in place at Chicago 2016, and the increased involvement of Lori, Bob and Mike will only enhance our bid as we move into the final ten months of the campaign,” said Patrick G. Ryan, chairman and CEO of Chicago 2016. “Each has served as members of our board of directors, and they all have participated in our international relations activities up until this point. We welcome their increased involvement in our efforts to host the 2016 Games.”
As president of Chicago 2016, Healey will oversee the bid’s community outreach and government relations activities, Olympic Village development and implementation of legacy programs. Most recently, Healey served as chief of staff to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, commissioner of the city’s Department of Planning and Development and, prior to that, as a principal in Perkins & Will’s Chicago office, serving as the market sector leader for Corporate, Commercial and Civic Architecture. Healey has had an active role in promoting Chicago’s bid internationally and has worked closely with Ryan in developing Chicago 2016’s intergovernmental relationships. Healey will join the bid full time in January.
As vice chairman for International Relations, Ctvrtlik will lead Chicago’s outreach activities to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), National Olympic Committees and international sporting federations. Ctvrtlik, a three-time Olympian and two-time medalist in men’s volleyball, has worked closely with Chicago 2016 since April 2007, when Chicago was named an Applicant City and moved into the international phase of the bid process. Ctvrtlik also served as one of three U.S. members of the IOC from 1996 to 2008.
Roberts, who is currently vice chairman of Chicago 2016, is responsible for overseeing all marketing and communications activities for the bid from the board level. He will take on a more active day-to-day role with the bid, and in addition to marketing and communications, will also be active in the areas of sponsorship, advertising, grassroots marketing and building the bid’s national and international presence in support of Chicago’s candidacy. Roberts is founder and chairman of Westside Holdings and was formerly president and COO of McDonald’s Corporation.
