Poverkhnost acquire UEFA Champions League and Europa League rights

Ukrainian broadcaster, Poverkhnost, acquired the media rights for the 2009-12 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League from European football’s governing body, UEFA.

Under the deal, Poverkhnost will show at least six Champions League matches each matchweek (three on Tuesday and three on Wednesday) on its pay-television channels, Sport 1, Sport 2 and Sport 3. Two additional matches each match week will be screened live on free-to-air - including any matches featuring Ukrainian clubs, the UEFA Champions League Final and the UEFA Super Cup – as well as highlights programmes on both nights and UEFA’s weekly magazine programme.

For the UEFA Europa League, one match and one highlights programme per matchweek will be shown on free-to-air. Poverkhnost will also deliver comprehensive coverage on its Sport 1, Sport 2 and Sport 3 channels as well as a highlights programme every match week featuring a roundup of the best of the action from the competition in its new format.

In addition, all matches from both competitions will be available live on the internet via www.poverkhnost.tv.

In a statement to the press, UEFA said: “We are delighted to announce the renewal of our partnership with Poverkhnost in Ukraine. In recent years they have proved to be a reliable broadcast partner. In particular, this deal means that football fans in Ukraine will be able to enjoy the best of the UEFA Champions League at a time when two of the country’s best known teams, FC Dynamo Kyiv and FC Shakhtar Donetsk, have featured prominently in the UEFA Champions League.”
