Leading climate change authority, Nick Stern, has joined the England Football Association’s World Cup 2018 bid as a vice-president to advise on the possible carbon footprint.

Leading climate change authority, Nick Stern, has joined the England Football Association’s World Cup 2018 bid as a vice-president to advise on the possible carbon footprint.

Lord Stern's involvement is a coup for the FA, with the chief executive of Tesco, Terry Leahy, also joining as a vice-president. Former FA chairman, and current UEFA and FIFA executive committee member, Geoff Thompson, was also appointment.

Joining them in ambassadorial vice-president roles are Chelsea's chief executive, Peter Kenyon, the England manager, Fabio Capello, and Taylor from the PFA.
