The University of Texas is to launch its own 24 hour sports network.
Officials from the University have agreed a deal with sports marketing agency, IMG, to negotiate distribution on Time Warner Cable (TWC), Comcast (CMCSA), and AT&T (T) in Texas.
If the channel, tentatively known as the Longhorn Sports Network, launches it will be the first time a university will have created its own sports network for broad distribution. Under the plans, the network will show range of sports, from baseball to track and field, although it currently does not have the rights to show all the Longhorns' football games.
The university has not reached any deals with distributors yet, but Alex Dudley, a spokesman for Time Warner Cable, told reporters that the talks had been "very productive" so far.
