Qtel to sponsor 2011 AFC Asian Cup

Qtel agreed a new deal with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to sponsor the 2011 AFC Asian Cup and the Asian Champions League from 2009 to 2012.

Qtel agreed a new deal with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to sponsor the 2011 AFC Asian Cup and the Asian Champions League from 2009 to 2012.

As part of its support for the AFC Asian Cup, the telecoms company will build on its experience in supporting the Doha Asian Games in 2006 to deploy one of the most advanced communication infrastructures available to any sporting event in the world.

Qtel Chairman H.E. Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani, said: “Qtel is a major supporter of sport in Qatar and regionally, and we are proud to be associated with opportunities like this that help demonstrate Qatar’s sporting prowess on a global stage.”
“With football growing in popularity and capturing the imagination of the whole community, the Cup and the Champions League will bring together the diverse nations of Asia and the Middle East to witness an exciting series of tournament matches,” he added.

The sponsor agreement was finalised today between Qtel, the Asian Football Confederation, Qatar Football Association, and World Sport Group, which is responsible for the commercial rights for the events.
