English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that a naming rights partner will be sought to support the financing of plans for the club’s proposed new stadium.
Club Chairman, Daniel Levy told reporters: “It’s a necessary and critical component of financing a modern football stadium. We are well aware of the history and great affection our fans have for White Hart Lane but our plans involve us moving to a completely new Stadium and if you want progress, things do have to change.”
Stadium naming rights agreements have become increasingly common in Europe, following the success in the United States where virtually all new stadia are part-financed by this special sponsorship arrangement.
Paul Barber, Executive Director, whose team will lead the work to find the Club’s naming rights partner, said: “Our initial research shows that a major new Stadium development for a world famous football club in London with a brand as prestigious as Tottenham Hotspur has the opportunity to generate significant and important funds to support the financing of our proposed development.
"All Spurs fans have been waiting for exciting news on the Stadium. It's now very important that we explore all avenues of financing to ensure that we have a viable project. With the Premiership's global reach, our stadium naming rights partner could come from anywhere in the world. This will further help to grow our Club's reputation and to expand our fanbase internationally."
