Germany’s top-tier domestic football league, the Bundesliga, launched a tender for its domestic broadcast rights.
Under the new model, one of the six Saturday games would have a later start but still end before television prime time whilst one Friday evening game would remain, with the possibility to move it to Sunday during weeks with international games. The two Sunday games would follow each other rather than being played simultaneously, as is currently the case, whilst in international weeks, the late Saturday game could also be moved to Sunday.
The German football league (DFL), which runs the professional game in the country, said there were 39 registered bidders, which have until November 21 to present their offers.
The DFL did not name the bidders, but German media reports have named Walt Disney Co. as one of the interested parties, which would involve setting a local ESPN channel. The bidders can offer either three or four-year deals, starting with next season. The league currently earns around €410 million ($523 million) a season.
