The UK’s longest-serving Sports Minister and current World Cup Ambassador, Richard Caborn MP, will address the Sports Event Management 2008 conference in London on November 12, 2008.
Caborn, who accepted his present position from Prime Minister Gordon Brown after stepping down as Sports Minister earlier this year, will discuss the benefits, challenges and implications of England’s Bid to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Commenting on the importance of the Cup, Carbon said: "You can look at the investment that will go into work around sporting facilities, and other sectors that would strongly benefit would include the tourism, transport and communications sectors. The World Cup is also different from the Olympics as it would go round England, with games being played in all of the regions, such as in the North West and North East".
Caborn joins an international line up of speakers at the conference, which will be opened by London 2012 CEO Paul Deighton. Other speakers include Dmitry Chernyshenko, CEO of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games Organising Committee, Sheik Saoud Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Secretary General of the influential Qatar Olympic Committee, Kelven Tan, Head of Marketing at the Singapore Sports Council, and legendary events promoter Harvey Goldsmith who will talk about sport’s role as entertainment in a changing world.
The conference will cover issues including the economic and political importance of major sports events, the financial impact of mass participation sports, the importance and potential of new-generation events and the changing role of sponsors.
Sports Event Management 2008 is the first of a trio of key sports industry events which take place at the Novotel St Pancras on November 12 and 13, 2008. It is followed by the SportBusiness Sports Event Management Awards on the evening of the 12th and the fifth Sports Security Summit, which takes place the following day.
