A £30 million redevelopment of cricket ground, Edgbaston, is set to be announced next month, bucking the credit crunch that has halted work at other grounds.
UK newspaper, The Times, reports that under the plans the southern side of the ground, around and including the pavilion, will be developed to increase the capacity by about 4,000 to 25,000. Much of the large car-parking area will be re-developed and may become a 200-room hotel whilst Warwickshire will retain the freehold and put the commercial area on a long lease.
The cricket club told the paper that, in partnership with MCD Developments, the firm that is advising Essex’s redevelopment, they plan to begin work next autumn and complete in time for the Test match against India in 2011.
