The European Broadcasting Union (EBU)and the Austrian Skiing Association (OSV) signed a landmark agreement to broadcast key European skiing events.
The deal includes two competitions from the crown jewel of ski jumping, the Four-Hills Tournament, and a number of prestigious Alpine World Cup events in Austria, including tomorrow’s opening of the Alpine skiing season in Sölden and the World Cup competitions in Kitzbuhel and Schladming.
Under the agreement, the EBU acquired all worldwide media rights for the next three seasons. EBU Director-General Jean Réveillon hailed the agreement as an important achievement for the organisation and its Members. “We are delighted that the Austrian Skiing Association has chosen the EBU to showcase this sport on TV. Skiing is a thrilling experience for audiences. We hope that this will be the start of a long-running partnership,” he concluded.
EBU sports acquisitions also include European and world events such as the winter and summer Olympic Games, FIFA World Football Cup, the World Athletics Championships, the FIS World Alpine and Nordic Skiing Championships, the Tour de France, the Roland Garros International Tennis Championships, and a large number of other major competitions.
