David Beckham’s proposed loan move to Italian giants AC Milan could be worth up to £10 million to the club over six months.
Sport business expert Professor Simon Chadwick said that although the former England captain’s prospective move to Italy is for just a few months, it will have an immediate impact on ticket sales, sponsorship deals, merchandise, TV revenues and promotional activity for his Milan paymasters.
Chadwick, commenting on behalf of Weber Shandwick Sport, said:“Brand Beckham is still a global phenomenon and even in these difficult economic times his star appeal in parts of the world such as the Middle East and Asia will see AC Milan netting up to £10 million, just for a short stay. Many of the world’s finest footballers have represented the Rossoneri, but Beckham is in his own league when it comes to global impact.”
Professor Chadwick is the Founder and Director of the Centre for the International Business of Sport at Coventry University.
