FL Interactive, the online arm of The Football League, has paid out record financial distributions to clubs of more than £3 million for the 2007/08 season.
The pay-out represents a 50 per cent increase on the previous twelve month period and follows a wholesale re-design of club websites at the beginning of last season that delivered an improved service to the four and a half million supporters that regularly log on to their club’s official website.
FLi Chairman, Ian Ritchie, said: “The new generation of FLi websites has given clubs the platform to provide an outstanding online service for their supporters, as well as the opportunity to earn substantial commercial revenues. This is encouraging clubs to be ever more creative in this area and as a consequence some will earn substantial six-figure sums out of this record payout by FLi”.
FL Interactive manages and develops the internet and mobile rights for 65 Football League clubs, 6 Premier League clubs and 8 clubs from the Football Conference. Its network of club websites is the largest football information service in the UK, generating more than 55m page impressions every month.
