Speaking to Eurosport, Stern said: "I think many of our teams will be trying to price tickets even more affordably with respect to group sales and the like, so we can make some effort in that regard.
"There is a season-ticket renewal rate decline, and new sales are also being hit," he said. "My guess is when [the regular season] kicks off, we will be down modestly in season ticket sales."
The news follows the NBA’s announcement this week that it would lay off nine per cent of its US workforce, or 80 jobs, as a result of concerns about the country's economy.
