The Sportfive agency agreed a deal for international rights for the Bundesliga for the 2009-10 – 2011-12 seasons in parts of Europe and Asia.
The agency was awarded the contract for one of the three rights packages for the period, by DFL Sports Enterprises, the newly founded wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) for the worldwide marketing.
Sportfive will negotiate with TV channels in Belgium, France, Japan, Korea, Netherlands and Portugal on behalf of the DFL, in order to achieve maximum reach for the Bundesliga broadcasts.
"Following an intensive tendering process, we have decided to award Sportfive the rights to jointly keep optimizing Bundesliga’s media marketing in select markets,” said DFL Sports Enterprises GmbH COO Jörg Daubitzer. “We look forward to a productive and cooperative collaboration”, added CEO Dr. Robert Niemann.
“We are delighted to once again be representing this top property, the Bundesliga, in the international TV markets,” says Lars Heidenreich, Executive Vice President TV Rights at Sportfive. “We will be able to leverage our strong presence in both Europe and Asia for the marketing, as the rights package also covers the two key Asian markets Japan and Korea.”
