Sport TV/RTP acquire Champions League rights

Portuguese public service broadcaster RTP and pay-television broadcasters RTP agreed a three-year deal with UEFA for the TV rights for the UEFA Champions League.

Portuguese public service broadcaster RTP and pay-television broadcasters RTP agreed a three-year deal with UEFA for the TV rights for the UEFA Champions League.

Under the deal, which runs between 2009 and 2012, Sport TV has been granted rights for all live matches and will show three matches per matchnight on the Sport TV1, Sport TV2 and Sport TV3 channels while all matches will be streamed live on www.sporttv.pt. As well as comprehensive live match coverage, Sport TV will also show highlights programmes on both nights, delayed matches and the UEFA Champions League magazine programme. The UEFA Champions League media rights for 2009-12 will also include the UEFA Super Cup in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

In a separate deal, RTP acquired the exclusive free-to-air coverage of the first choice live match in each match week. The broadcaster will also show a highlights programme on both nights and the weekly magazine programme. RTP's UEFA Champions League programming will be scheduled on its primary channel RTP1 as well as on Internet via www.rtp.pt and on RTP mobile.
