Worldwide media coverage of The Artemis Transat 2008 was worth over €10 million, according to figures published by race organisers.

OC Events, the organisers of the race for the last two editions, said that research by Sports Marketing Survey’s had found that coverage of the famous single-handed transatlantic race, was worth a total of €6.5 million in the UK and France alone. The highest value of coverage was achieved in the TV sector, accounting for 57 per cent of all value, followed by print at 32 per cent – both in the UK market. The largest volume of coverage, however, was achieved online at 51 per cent, followed by print (23 per cent) and TV (17 per cent).

CEO of the OC Group, that includes OC Events, Mark Turner, said: "This is a high-end professional sport and it's important to be able to tell your sponsors and stakeholders what their return on investment actually is. This year we were set a very high media target by Artemis, title partner to the race for the first time, and a lot of hard work and some great stories from the race track saw OC Events exceed this target."

The Artemis Transat started from Plymouth (UK) on May 11, 2008 when 28 skippers set out to cross the North Atlantic alone, 2,800-miles to Boston (USA).
