Modern Times Group (MTG), acquired the exclusive media rights in Denmark, Norway and Sweden for the UEFA Champions League from UEFA.
Under the deal, which runs from 2009 to 2012, free-to-air channels TV3+ and Viasat 4 in Denmark and Norway respectively will show the first choice live match on each match night as well as highlights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. In Sweden, fans will be able to watch one match per match week (including the UEFA Champions League Final) and one highlights programme on free-to-air channel TV6. The remaining live matches, delayed matches and the weekly magazine programme will be available on the Viasat platform in each country.
In addition, MTG will also deliver comprehensive coverage via the Internet and on mobile networks throughout the region.
In a statement to the press, UEFA, said: “MTG is a world class broadcaster with a proven track record of delivering the UEFA Champions League to fans across Scandinavia. Consequently we are delighted to announce this deal which will enable UEFA and MTG to continue our successful relationship for a further three seasons starting in 2009. The commitment that MTG has made throughout Denmark, Norway and Sweden and the comprehensive coverage on both free-to-air and pay will guarantee that fans in those countries will have unrivalled access to the greatest club football competition on the planet”.
The deal was brokered by TEAM Marketing AG, the exclusive marketing agent of UEFA for the UEFA Champions League, and includes the rights for the UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Europa League in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
