SportBusiness Awards announce charity partnership

Sparks, the children’s medical research organisation with strong links
to the sports industry and leading figures of the sporting world, is to
be the charity of the 2008 SportBusiness Sports Event Management Awards
Dinner, events organisers, Rushmans has announced.

The partnership will raise vital funds for the charity, helping to support their on-going research in paediatric medicine with the awards dinner underlining and reinforcing the charity’s close links to the sports industry.

Gabby and Kenny Logan, Co-Presidents of Sparks, said “We’re delighted that Sparks is benefiting from the SportBusiness Sports Event Management Awards. It is the perfect fit for a charity founded and supported by many of Britain’s leading sportsmen and women. The event is also in tune with the Sparks ethos of having fun in a truly great cause - helping more babies to be born healthy and grow up healthy to enjoy the simple thrills of kicking or throwing a ball or being able to run a race.

“It’s important to note that Sparks is the only children’s charity to fund cutting edge research across the whole spectrum of paediatric medicine. With less than 1 per cent of the NHS budget dedicated to medical research for children, that makes the support we’re receiving from the SportBusiness Sports Event Management Awards and organisers Rushmans all the more important.”

The Awards recognise excellence among the myriad organisations and individuals involved in the international sports event management industry. The black tie gala dinner will see the presentation of 10 awards across a wide range of disciplines including the new Outstanding Achievement and Sports City Award. The organisers have been delighted with the calibre and number of entries as well as the huge interest generated by this year’s ceremony. The shortlist will be announced on Wednesday 1st October and published in the October issue of SportBusiness magazine.

The ceremony will be held on November 12, 2008 in London.
