The agreement, with the All Sports Network (ASN), which is owned by Yes TV in Hong Kong, will include more than 130 regular season games, the NHL All-Star game, the playoffs and Stanley Cup Final. Highlights programs will also be available.
In a statement to be released later today, senior NHL vice-president, Ken Yaffe, says: "We have been very impressed by ASN's aggressive rollout plans and their commitment to a growing roster of sports programming. Partnering with ASN represents a significant step in expanding our broadcast footprint internationally, and we are excited to begin offering our fans in Asia a comprehensive, season-long game schedule."
The distribution agreement is understood to run for two years from 2009 to 2010 and will include South Korea during the second yea of the contract. It is not thought to include Japan, Australia or New Zealand however.
