The one-day tournament, which will be known as the “Derby-Fever – Hyundai Cup 2009, will take place on January 4 and feature Bundesliga rivals and neighbours Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach, VfL Bochum and FC Cologne as well as Preussen Munster.
Managing director of Kentaro Germany, Olaf Jochmann, said: “Indoor football has a long history in Germany, but
this tournament will set new standards. Every single match is a direct duel between rival Westphalian neighbours. There will even be a specially planted grass pitch inside the arena to minimise the risk of injury. I am sure the players – and the football fans – will love it.”
A sell-out crowd of over 10,000 fans is expected to witness the first edition of “Derby-Fever”, with Hyundai acting as official presentation partners, having obtained the naming rights. The tournament is also due to be broadcast live by a public service broadcaster.
