German magazine, Focus, reports that the cartel office is facing a claim of at least €25 million. The deadline for the premature cancellation of the marketing contract between German football association Deutsche Fußball Liga and Sirius will expire on September 30. After the cartel watchdogs vetoed the plan, industry experts believe that the contract will be annulled, although Kirch’s company will not be dissolved.
A Sirius spokesman told Focus that the company wanted to “continue its activities in the area of sports rights independently of marketing contracts”, but declined to provide further details.
