Hungarian GP extends F1 contract

The Hungarian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula One calendar until at least 2016 after F1 officials agreed to extend their contract with the circuit.

The announcement followed a meeting between Hungary’s sport minister and F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone.

The Hungaroring track made its F1 debut in 1986, becoming the first venue behind the former Iron Curtain to stage a race. The track is located within a natural valley that makes it popular with fans who are able to see large sections of the track from the grandstands.
