SFL secure Challenge Cup sponsor

Gaelic television company MG ALBA has agreed a one-year sponsorship deal with the Scottish Football League (SFL) to become the title sponsor of the Challenge Cup.

Under the deal, the Cup will be renamed the ALBA Challenge Cup and one semi-final and the final will be shown on satellite television.

Chief executive of the SFL, David Longmuir, said: "We are absolutely delighted with this sponsorship deal because it gets Scottish League teams back on the television. It is an important step in the right direction as we wanted to raise the profile of the Challenge Cup and get more people to come along and support it. By rescheduling most of the rounds to Saturdays or Sundays on international weekends, we are giving the competition its own unique place in the calendar”.

MG ALBA will begin broadcasting in September and will focus on three sports – shinty, rugby and football.
