It is understood that Rangers were keen to offer an incentive for supporters to attend the game – the team's first competitive match of the season – in greater numbers. Tonight's match has been advertised on the club's official website as an attendance-only fixture with the club eager to entice fans into the ground in support of the team.
The last match between the two sides drew a crowd of 45,974 at the same stage of the competition eight years ago, and Rangers are hoping for similar support this evening.
BBC Scotland said they understood the decision of the club and hope to screen future European matches, with a bid for the second leg in Lithuania next week still under consideration.
