Wong will report directly to Manu Sawhney, managing director, ESPN STAR Sports, who said: “Wong brings a wealth of experience and business insights to the role. Having had the benefit of working in regional and global positions coupled with his solid foundation in operations, distribution and the digital space, I am confident he will do well as our new head of China, a market with many exciting and fast-growing opportunities.”
Wong brings with him more than 15 years of media industry experience, having held various management roles in the Bertelsmann Music Group where he contributed to the success of BMG in Asia Pacific and globally. Wong will be responsible for the strategic direction and growth of ESPN STAR Sports’ operations in China, as well as managing ESS’s business relationships with partners and affiliates in the country.
ESPN STAR Sports operates from its Beijing and Shanghai offices in China and broadcasts its two channels ESPN & STAR Sports in Mandarin across China. It also provides comprehensive sports coverage through its popular sports site www.espnstar.com.cn and stages various sporting events including Kia X Games Asia and premier pool event, Guinness 9 ball Tour, in China.
